Parasite Control and Prevention for Pets

It’s important to protect your pet against internal and external parasites that can cause them a range of preventable health issues. If your pet doesn’t have a parasite prevention program, they could be at risk of developing potentially life-threatening health issues that could also affect the rest of your family. Set up an appointment with us to discuss parasite prevention, or call us at 905.682.7857 to refill your pet’s medication.

What parasite should I be protecting my pet from?

Heartworms, fleas, ticks, and other internal and external parasites are much more than just pests. They can cause life-threatening conditions and put the rest of your family at risk for infection. For example, intestinal parasite infections from roundworms, hookworms, whipworms and tapeworms can become zoonotic, which means they are passed on from furry friends to their family members. Ensuring your pet is on a parasite prevention plan not only protects them, but your entire family from contracting preventable health conditions.

How can I tell if my pet has a parasite infection?

Depending on the type of parasite that’s infected your pet, they may experience a range of health concerns. If you suspect your pet might have an infection, please contact us immediately. Potential signs you might see are:

  • Weight loss
  • Diarrhea
  • Vomiting
  • Scooting
  • Coughing

Does my pet need to take more than one parasite preventive?

It’s not uncommon for your pet to be prescribed more than one parasite preventive, based on their age, breed, lifestyle and other risk factors. Medication can come in the form of topical cream, oral medication or injection. The most important thing is to remember to give your pet their medication as prescribed so they can be fully protected.
