Vaccinations for Kittens and Cats

Vaccination is a form of preventive healthcare that ensures your pet is protected against certain diseases. Vaccinations are a safe and effective way to build your pet’s immunity against transmittable disease which can cause long-term harm. If your pet doesn’t have a vaccination plan, please call us at 905.682.7857 to schedule an appointment to discuss it.

Which vaccines do you recommend for kittens and cats?

From around 6 to 8-weeks-old and throughout adulthood, we recommend your feline friend get vaccinated against a range of communicable diseases. We offer a range of core and non-core vaccines, based on your pet’s likelihood to contract a certain disease.

Some core vaccines include:

  • FVRCP (Feline Viral Rhinotracheitis, Calicivirus and Panleukopenia) – a host of viruses that cause upper respiratory tract infections
  • Rabies – affects the nervous system and is often fatal

Some non-core vaccines, given based on your pet’s lifestyle, are:

  • FeLV (Feline Leukemia) – affects the immune system, causing anemia
  • Bordetella (Kennel cough) – causes fatal respiratory infections

    How do vaccinations work?

The goal of vaccines is to build your pet’s immunity against certain viruses, which either limit the severity of an infection or completely protect your pet from being infected. If your pet gets exposed to the virus they’re vaccinated against, it will trigger an immune response where their body fights against the infection.

Are the vaccines safe for pets?

Yes, vaccinations are safe for pets. They are formulated specifically with their bodies in mind. Though we cannot guarantee 100% effectiveness, vaccines are the most safe and effective way to protect your pet against some life-altering and fatal diseases.
