Deworming Services for Pets

Deworming helps us ensure your pet is free of any internal parasites that might cause them harm. Parasites can make a home out of your pet and cause damage to vital organs and systems. Your pet should be dewormed regularly, based on their age and other risk factors. If your pet isn’t on a deworming schedule, please contact us to book an appointment at 905.682.7857.

What is deworming?

Your furry friend has parasites living in them from a young age and throughout their adulthood. It’s important to have them removed to prevent any long term health issues caused by these pesky critters. These internal parasites don’t only pose a risk to your pet’s health but yours as well. Especially if you have children, elderly, pregnant or immuno-compromised people living at home, it’s important to have your pet dewormed regularly so they aren’t passed on to any non-furry family members.

How does it work?

Pets are dewormed at different times, depending on their age and how susceptible they are to parasite infections. Typically, we might recommend your adult pet get dewormed every 1 to 6 months. For puppies and kittens, they’re dewormed much more frequently since their mothers pass on worms to them through nursing. Based on factors like your pet’s overall health and age, we’ll prescribe a deworming medication that best suits their needs. This could be in the form of an injection, topical cream or oral medication.

Are there any side effects for deworming?

It’s normal for your pet to experience side effects a few days after taking the medication. However, don’t hesitate to contact us if they persist. Side effects your pet might experience include:

  • Stool filled with worms for a few days after
  • Vomiting
  • Diarrhea
  • Upset stomach
  • Loss of appetite
